Teaching Methods & Assessment In European Universities:

Teaching methods

European universities present a highly rewarding educational system, by following traditional modes of training that are improved upon by the innovative approaches of the modern day. The teaching methods take in a perfect blend of theory, practical and laboratory exercises, seminars and clinical attachments and are integrated with the newly evolved problem-based learning (PBL) program, enhanced by the contemporary audio-visual resources. Unlike lectures that are usually addressed to a large group of students, seminars, practical and laboratory exercises normally split the student strength into small and workable groups of 6 to 10 students. Moreover, these universities are store houses of knowledge with their highly qualified faculties who flaunt an enviable academic background and intensive experience. With a group of students being assigned to a particular lecturer or assistant lecturer, regular monitoring and training continues to happen throughout the entire course curriculum.

Assessment

Every semester ends with an examination, which assesses students’ competency in those subjects completed in that particular semester. Students can appear for one regular and one supplementary examination session. It is the State Examination Board that gives the final verdict on the assessment, which is done by considering the complete theoretical and practical knowledge the student has acquired through the duration of the semester. .

On successful completion of the course and examination, students will be awarded a diploma of completed higher medical education, with MA degree in medicine and professional qualification “Doctor of medicine” with rights of General Practitioner.

Methods of assessment:

•    Oral examination
•    Written examination
•    Multiple choice test
•    Practical examination
•    Continuous assessment depending on the subject

In all the above assessment methods, students are evaluated on a scale from 2 to 6.                Back
